Midtjylland vs Celtic
UEFA Europa League
League Stage MD 4
Martin O'Neill takes his Celtic side to Denmark tonight to face Europa League leaders Midtjylland as they look to build on their weekend success at Hampden.
Here's the micro preview...……
TELLY & KO
This one is live on TNT Sports 2 from 17:00 and it's a 17:45 start.
PREVIOUSLY
Midtjylland had to go through qualifying even to reach the League Stage, starting of course with a tie against Hibernian which they eventually won at the death in extra time in Edinburgh.
They then eliminated Norwegian side Fredrikstad and KuPS from Finland, winning all four legs across those ties and scoring at least twice in every one to qualify.
The Danes have went from strength to strength since then, recording a perfect 100% record from their opening 3 matches of the league stage having beaten Sturm Graz 2-0 in Denmark on MD1 then following that up with two impressive away wins at Nottingham Forest (3-2) and Maccabi Tel Aviv (3-0).
Those wins leave them proudly on the Europa League summit, with Celtic currently ranked 21st.
LEAGUE FORM
Midtjylland currently sit 2nd in the Danish Superliga, with 8 wins, 5 draws and one defeat in their 14 games to date. They are 2 points behind leaders AGF and in Guinean striker Franculino Djú they boast the leagues top scorer with 13 league goals to his name so far this term.
REFEREE
The man in the middle tonight is Serbian Nenad Minaković and he quite likes a card, showing 43 yellows and a red in just 9 outings so far this season. Those figures were skewed a wee bit though by some card carnage on his last visit to Denmark where he showed 11 yellow cards as Brondby were beaten 3-2 by Strasbourg in the Conference League in August.
BOOKIES
The bookies price Celtic at 23/10 to preserve O'Neill's 100% winning start with the home side favs but still odds against at 21/10 and the draw is a 14/5 option.
DIVS BONKERS BET
Benjamin Nygren was already very fond of a shot under Brendan Rodgers, but under Martin O'Neill he's become a shooting machine.
He's a bit erratic but he can get one on target tonight and so can hitman Johnny Kenny who has scored 3 times in his last 2 appearances.
Franculino is in ridiculous form for the home side with 7 goals in his last 5 appearances in all comps and he is also the penalty man so we will take him to find the net this evening.
Marcelo Saracchi has been booked in both his Europa appearances to date and assuming he starts he would be up against Júnior Brumado who is one of the Danes most fouled players.
That all comes in at a high wide and handsome 20/1.
Very best of luck to Celtic this evening!
