The Best Scottish Footballers Of All Time

The Best Scottish Footballers Of All Time

With Scotland not qualifying for the FIFA World Cup that is just around the corner, still hurting, let’s make the vibes more positive and look at who are the best footballers in Scottish history. Since there are five brick-and-mortar Casinos in Latvia, let's name one player for each casino.

Top 5 Scottish Footballers Ever

5. Jim Baxter 1960-1970

Jim Baxter was a very naturally talented wing that managed to score 3 goals in only 34 International games. The most impressive of which was the 2 goals he scored against England when he led a 10-man team to a 2-1 victory in 1963.

Jim Baxter’s career was cut short due to the Rockstar lifestyle he led off-field. Who knows, if the internet were a thing back then, he would probably be playing at Laimz Casino in between corners and throw-ins.

4. Graeme Souness  1974-1986

Graeme Souness was the hard-working rock of the Scottish midfield for a little over a decade. His goal-scoring was not what made him so important to the Scottish international team. Instead, it was his impeccable leadership and control in the midfield.

The Best example of this would be his performance against Holland in the third group stage match of the 1978 world cup. Souness made his mark on the team by leading the Scottish underdogs to victory against a formidable Holland.

3. Jim Leighton 1982-1998

Not all greats have to score goals. In fact, some of the world's greatest players do the opposite; they prevent them. In the case of Jim Leighton, there has arguably never been a better goal-stopper to have worn the Scottish crest.

His catlike reflexes, strong wrists and excellent positioning skills allowed Jim Leighton to catch penalties, more often than not, so it is no wonder how he racked up a whopping 91 caps for Scotland in 16 years.

2. Kenny Dalglish 1971-1986

This attacking midfielder/forward will not shock anyone to be on this list. In his 15-year-long international career, Kenny Dalglish scored 30 scintillating goals in 102 caps for the navy blue and white jersey.

Kenny Dalglish was a formidable dribbler and could shoot clinically with either foot. Skills he put to use when he scored the first goal against New Zealand in Scotland's 5-2 victory. Kenny was not only important to Scotland as he is the 7th most capped player for the illustrious Liverpool.

1. Denis Law 1958-1974

Dennis Law was a prolific striker who scored 30 goals in a mere 55 caps. However, it is hard to select just one match where Denis Law showed his class, as he regularly had stretches of matches where he would score 11 goals in 7 caps.

A better testament to Denis Law’s class would be the fact that he still remains 3rd on the list of all-time goal-scorers for Manchester United, who have players such as Christiano Ronaldo and Sir Bobby Charlton.
