Could The Special One Be Set For A Future Scottish Adventure

The 2024/25 Scottish Premiership campaign has given rise to a number of stories this year, and they were not entirely dominated by Celtic or Rangers either, as Hibernian and Aberdeen have also had their fair share of the headlines over the course of the last few months.

One of the biggest, and probably unexpected pieces of news to hit the airwaves though, was a largely throw away comment from the self styled Special One, Jose Mourinho. The 62 year old serial winner as a manager is currently with Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce after parting ways with Serie A side AS Roma, and with his club preparing for their Europa League Round of 16 tie with Rangers, he somewhat bizarrely threw in that before he hangs up his gaffer cap, he would quite fancy a Scottish journey and experience.

With Scotland's rich history in the 'beautiful game' the top flight has boasted some hugely successful and well known managerial names down the years, but the media side show that follows Mourinho around (and is often started directly by the man himself with his behaviour and comments) is largely unlike anything most have seen before, but it would certainly boost the profile of the Scottish game were it to ever happen. For those fans who like a flutter and use the likes of Novibet football betting, if Mourinho did arrive you can guarantee the odds of him being sent off would become a regular feature ahead of match days.

It is fair to say that he is unlikely to leave Turkey before the end of the current campaign at the earliest, but as Mourinho knows himself, changes in the dugout can often happen overnight and he does have a history of clashing with his bosses at some point during his spell at a club, so if his comment was not tongue in cheek and just designed to wind a few reporters (and fans) up ahead of their game, well, it could very much be watch this space as we look towards the summer.

The recent changes at Rangers add a new dimension to his comment for all the obvious reasons, but that is something to consider in the future as Ibrox would not be the only potential destination, as a number of clubs would be hoping to bring in a manager of his calibre to help rewrite the history books and potentially create a historic media fairytale much in the realms of Leicester City and their wildly unexpected achievements back in 2016 in the English top flight.

With the passion in the Scottish game, and the potential for that kind of European and even worldwide notoriety, you would expect that Mourinho would be interested purely on that level of self promotion - the unknown is simply whether or not a deal could be done as we look to the foreseeable future.

It would certainly be an interesting watch for whoever turned out to be the neutrals if anything came of this situation.
